Trombone Prof. Jamie Williams

Jamie Williams has held the position of principal solo trombonist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2009. He was also appointed a professorship at the Rostock University of Music and Drama in April 2017.

As an enthusiastic orchestral musician, he has collaborated with numerous first-class orchestras, including the orchestra of the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Hamburg State Opera, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the RSO Berlin and the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne. He was solo trombonist at the Dortmund Philharmonic from 2003 to 2009.

Jamie Williams’ performances as soloist and in diverse chamber music ensembles have taken him to Asia, all over Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America. In 2012 he performed as a soloist together with the orchestra at the Berlin Philharmonic. He was designated Yamaha Artist in 2010. His solo debut album “Voice” received a number of positive reviews. He is in great demand as a teacher and regularly holds masterclasses all over the world.

Jamie Williams, born in Florida in 1979, started playing trombone at the age of eleven. He received a full-time scholarship in 1997 that enabled him to study at the Julliard School in New York under Joe Alessi. After his time in New York, he continued his studies, working with teachers such as Per Brevig, Jonas Bylund, Michel Bequet, and Ian Bousfield.  Yamaha designated him the title of Yamaha Artist in 2010. Jamie Williams is a sought-after jury member at international trombone competitions. In 2014 hmt Rostock’s trombone class led by Jamie won the Emory Remington Trombone Ensemble Prize for the best trombone ensemble in the world. The class plays regular concerts and was invited to perform at the International Trombone Festival in New York.
