Prof. Barbara Felsenstein
Barbara Felsenstein studied singing/jazz and popular music with a focus on drama at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona and at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. She is an active singer in various band projects ranging from modern jazz to swing performs in musical programmes in the field of chanson/musicals.
During her studies, she broadened her range to include musical theatre and was a regular guest performer at the “Hannoversche Kammerspiele”. Further stations have taken her from the Mecklenburg State Theatre to the Munich Chamber Opera, from the Oberhausen Theatre (‘Woyzeck’, Brennan/Wilson/Waits, ‘Never too loud - The Velvet Underground’) to the Naumburg Theatre and, of course, above all, to the stages of her home city of Berlin (including the theatre and the Komödie on Kurfürstendamm, the cabaret theatre Die Stachelschweine, the Kleines Theater Berlin).
Barbara Felsenstein has been Professor of Singing and Popular Music Genres at the Rostock University of Music and Drama since winter semester 2013/14. In addition, since the summer semester of 2024, she has been co-directing the degree programme in Popular Music with Classical Music with Andreas Gomoll (previously known as Pop and World Music with Classical Music until 2026).
