Confessions. A performance about colonisation within us
Three artists have come together to examine their different social experiences as people of black skin colour in this performance: Marléne Douty, theatre maker from Togo and current DAAD guest lecturer at the hmt Rostock, is working on the decolonisation of theatre. Komi Togbonou, a Togolese who grew up in Remscheid, has worked on many projects dealing with German colonial history and building cultural bridges between the African continent and Germany. Ensemble member Martin Weigel travelled to Africa for the first time in 2021 with the theatre production "Wir Schwarzen müssen zusammenhalten - Eine Erwiderung".
The encounter between the three artists was the starting point for "Confessions". In their performative research, they mark their different positions in relation to German-Togolese colonial history and its effects to this day. The first performance took place at the Munich Kammerspiele in 2023. Marléne Douty and Martin Weigel will present a revised version of "Confessions" for two performers in Rostock.
The performance will take place on Friday, 28 November 2025, at 19:30 in the Katharinensaal of the Rostock University of Music and Theatre.
Tickets are available for €15.00 (reduced €10.00) plus box office surcharge. Admission is free for students with the Kulturticket.
