This year’s DAAD Prize goes to David Angulo Arce

This year’s DAAD Prize is being awarded by the Rostock University of Music and Drama to David Angulo Arce. The guitarist from Costa Rica has been studying for a Master’s degree in Guitar under Professor Dr Thomas Offermann since the summer semester of 2025. The award ceremony will take place at the opening of the semester on 15 April 2026 in the university’s Katharinensaal.

David Angulo is visibly committed both within and outside the university. He is actively involved in social causes, including with the ZONTA Club Wismar and Migra e.V. Furthermore, he performs regularly at various events, such as the intercultural language café or the charity concert for St. Marien in Rostock. As part of Live Music Now, he also performs regularly in social care settings. Within the university’s guitar department, he has taken on key responsibilities, such as organising joint concert tours to Bonn, Vienna and Eisenstadt.

The DAAD Prize is awarded annually to international students who have distinguished themselves through both outstanding academic achievement and remarkable social or intercultural engagement. It is provided by the German Academic Exchange Service and is endowed with €1,000 per university.
