Rostock drama students win Fritz Wortelmann Prize
Three students on the degree course in teaching drama at the Rostock University of Music and Drama have been awarded the Fritz Wortelmann Prize 2025 by the German Forum for Puppet Theatre and Puppetry Art for their play "10m - kein zurück". The prize awarded to them is endowed with €4,000. The prize-giving ceremony took place on 21 September at Schauspielhaus Bochum.
Jan Speiser and Lara Reimer, who successfully completed their studies in March 2025, and student Johanna Renard (7th semester) developed the play together within the framework of their studies at hmt Rostock.
"We are delighted that the artistic work of students from the drama teaching degree programme is being recognised nationwide," says course director Prof. Dr. Matthias Dreyer. "Excellent artistic quality is one of the best requirements for excellent school theatre!"
A total of 18 productions from German-speaking countries in the field of puppet and object theatre were nominated for the competition. The "Fritz" is the only city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's oldest cultural prize and is awarded every two years.
Another production by students from the drama teaching degree programme also received artistic transferral: "Oh Mother", a play about motherhood and care work, will be performed at the "Tbilisi International Student Theatre Festival", which will take place in Tbilisi (Georgia) from 20 to 24 September 2025. The play was developed by Alina Bayer, Nele Brinkmann, Hannah Holz, Miriam Rakel, Klara Wettengel and Sophia Zaar.
