Young International Orchestra performs in Estonia for the first time
The Young International Orchestra (YIO) performed in Estonia for the first time on 23 August 2025. Founded in Rostock in 2018, the international youth orchestra is made up of talented musicians from Germany, Latvia, Austria and Estonia, including 17 early students and network students from the Young Academy Rostock. A total of 76 musicians took to the stage of the MUBA Fachschule (vocational college) for music and ballet in Tallinn.
Conductor Mihhail Gerts describes it as "very moving" when young musicians from four different states make music together. "It's much more than notes, rhythm and practising - it's breathing together, listening together [...]. An international music meeting like this enriches us all - it teaches us not only to listen to music, but also to listen to each other," he summarises.
During the YIO project week in Estonia, the participants rehearsed intensively for the concert. They enjoyed the musical dialogue and being together and learned about Estonian history and culture.
