Rostock Student Philharmonic

The orchestra brings together students from the Rostock University of Music and Drama who study music education as well as other music enthusiasts from the University of Rostock and the hmt Rostock and from outside the universities. This interdisciplinary line-up has formed a lively and versatile ensemble dedicated to the interpretation of symphonic works from the Baroque to the modern era - including overtures, solo concertos, symphonic poems and symphonies. Under the musical direction of Robin Portune, the Rostock Student Philharmonic regularly prepares challenging concert programs. The performances offer the approximately 50 musicians valuable practical experience in orchestral playing and promote their musical and pedagogical development.

The Studierendenphilharmonie was formed in May 2025 from the school music orchestra of the Rostock University of Music and Drama and the university orchestra of the University of Rostock. This marked a significant step in the collaboration between the institutes and created a new, sonic framework for making music together. Their first joint performance as a student philharmonic orchestra took place on July 4, 2025 in the Katharinensaal of the hmt Rostock.

Rehearsal times: Wednesdays, 18:00 - 20:30, Gustav-Adolf Saal on the 1st floor of the Petrikirche, Alter Markt 1, 18055 Rostock
