Single sheet music parts for choir and orchestra are not located in the open access area. Please ask a member of the staff.
Condition and completeness
Before borrowing please check the condition and the completeness of the items and inform us about damages. Otherwise the defects will be charged to your account.

There are 2 copier available in the library. You can use coins or the Mensa-Card of the Studentenwerk.
We offer access to online databases of all subjects via the Datenbank-Informationssystem DBIS (database-informationsystem). Please search for a database alphabetically of by subject.
We offer a great selection of fulltext e-journals via the EZB, many of them with free access.

The hmt does not participate in the interlibrary loan. Please ask the staff at the University library Rostock. It is possible to register at the University library in person or to fill in the application form at the website of the library . Afterwards the online-order of items is possible, it will cost 1,50 € per item (interlibrary loan in Germany).
The items will be delivered to the University library Rostock, divisional library Südstadt (Mensa).
In the reading room workstations are available for public use.
Printed journals are not lendable.
You may manage your own account on the website of the University library Rostock. Use the button Benutzerkonto (My account) and key in the number of your library card and your password. You will get an overview of the borrowed items, outstanding fees and you can renew the items.
For registration we need your identity card or passport (with "Meldebescheinigung") and your valid student card. The library card is not transferable. To borrow or renew items we always need your valid library card.
The library card is valid for one year. To renew it, please bring your identity card or passport (with "Meldebescheinigung") and your valid student card.
If you lose your library card please inform us.
The use of the library is free of charge. You have to pay overdue charges and fees for defined services according to the valid fee schedule of the hmt.
The loan period for sound recordings, CD-ROMs, videos and DVDs is one week.
The loan period for books is four weeks.
The loan period for sheet music is twelve weeks for students and staff members and four weeks for external users.
The loan period for sheet music for University choir and orchestra-projects depends on the performing dates.
Loss or damage
Please inform us immediately about a damaged or lost item or library card. A replacement of the library card costs 5,00 €.
If you lose or damage an item you will be obliged to replace it. At the information desk you will get the bibliographic information you need.
The replacement of the barcode costs 2,50 €. Further costs may occur.
In the reading room there are players available for CDs, records and cassettes. For DVD you may use the PC (first seat).
Musicology stock of the University library Rostock
From Sept. 1st 2011 on you will find a great part of the musicology stock of the University library Rostock in the hmt.
The overdue charges per item are:
1. reminder: 1,50 Euro
2. reminder: plus 3,00 Euro
3. reminder: plus 5,00 Euro
Printing of single documents is possible in the library on used paper. You can also bring you own blank paper.
Encyclopedias, reference books, complete editions, loose-leaf publications and journals are not lendable. Generally these items are marked with a red dot next to the accession number.
A registration form for the library card is available in the library or online.

For registration we need your identity card or passport, your valid student card and some document, which shows your current german adress (like "Aufenthaltstitel", "Meldebescheinigung", or the rental contract of your appartement). The library card is not transferable. To borrow or renew items we always need your valid library card.
If you lose your library card please inform us immediately. To avoid misuse we would lock your account.
yaro-students under 16 need a registration of the parents.
Renew / extend the loan period
You may manage your account on the website of the University library Rostock.
Use the button Benutzerkonto (My account) and key in the number of your library card and your password (first password: date of birth 6-digit: ddmmyy). Renewal is also possible at the information desk or by phone during opening hours.
You can renew items up to 10 times.
Renewal is not possible, if
- the item has a reservation for another user
- there are overdue charges on your account
- your library card is not valid
- or the item is overdue for more than a week.
If items are borrowed by another user, it is possible to make an online-reservation. You will be informed via email when the item has been returned.
The reserved items are deposited at the circulation desk for one week.
We have a book scanner in the library. Please bring your own USB-stick to save documents.
Teachers of the hmt can choose library items for their courses in a "Semesterapparat" in order to keep the course material in a central place. The "Semesterapparat" is located in the first bookshelf under the gallery. If you would like to use the service, please get in touch with us.
The stock is arranged by the classification system. On the basis of the classification system you are able to look for a topic or a musical genre or instrumentation in the shelves directly.
Shelf mark, class number
The shelf mark or class number indicates the location of items in the library.
There is WLAN-access in the library and in the reading room.
WLAN access codes for hmt-students are available in the library, for other hmt members at room SZ 16.
