Andreas Luhn

Born in Ilmenau / Thüringen in 1963, Andreas Luhn began his musical training at the age of 6 on the piano and later on the cello. He studied Tuba and Double Bass at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar from 1979 to 1985. During his studies, he already took on substitute roles at various orchestras in Thüringen - including the Staatskapelle Weimar. After graduating, Andreas Luhn became solo tubist in Rostock in 1985, a position he still holds at the Norddeutsche Philharmonie today. This was followed by solo activities and participation in several chamber music ensembles such as L’art de Passage, Querblechein and the Blechbläser-Consort Rostock.

Andreas Luhn has been lecturer for the major Tuba and the orchestral repertoire F and B Tuba, as well as Cimbasso at the Rostock University of Music and Drama since winter semester 2000. He also holds courses in the subjects teaching (practice) / methodology and music literature, and teaches the subject Euphonium at the Young Academy Rostock. Andreas Luhn has also taught the subjects Tuba and Euphonium at the Rostock Conservatory since 2013.

Andreas Luhn has performed as a guest musician in numerous orchestras in northern and central Germany. His international activities including the holding of masterclasses and workshops have taken him to Poland, Spain, and Vietnam.
