Prof. Dr. Holger Wangerin

The violinist and musicologist Holger Wangerin is a lecturer for violin, chamber music and literature studies at the Rostock University of Music and Drama. He studied violin with Prof. Jörg Hofmann and Prof. Ilan Gronich as well as musicology and philosophy both at the State University of Music and the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau and at the University of the Arts and the Humboldt University in Berlin. He completed his medical studies at the Charité Berlin and the University of Rostock with a doctorate. His studies were supported by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and, in the concert exam, by a postgraduate scholarship from the State of Berlin.

In addition to concerts as a soloist, his passion for the string quartet led to several competition successes and chamber music studies with Prof. Eberhard Feltz at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin.

Holger Wangerin performs in orchestras and with his string quartet at festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Rheingau, Salzburg, London, Lucerne, Edinburgh, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Tokyo, Odessa, Seoul and elsewhere. He is an enthusiastic teacher and teaches regularly and on courses for the Young Academy Rostock, at the Talent Music Summer Courses Brescia and in Pacasmayo/ Perú. His students are prize winners and hold positions in renowned orchestras.
