Junges Rostocker Nonett

The Junges Rostocker Nonett  - an hmt Rostock ensemble - is made up of students from various semesters and nationalities and provides the perfect setting for training students in the field of chamber music. The typical configuration consisting of a woodwind quintet with flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, together with four strings - violin, viola, cello and double bass - allows the nonet to perform music that is varied, colourful and rich in contrast. The Ensemble is led by Professor Heiner Schindler.

Since its founding in 2011, the Junges Rostocker Nonett has gained itself a good reputation, playing concerts in Rostock, Berlin, Szczecin/Poland, several venues in Vogtland and in Kraslice in July 2012, and again at the ‘Kraslice Spring’, in Reichenbach and Zwickau in April 2013. In 2014 the nonet gave performances at the Vogtlandhalle Greiz, at Caputh House and the Hunting Lodge Grunewald/Berlin. One of the highlights was the guest performance at the ‘Papandopulo Festival’ in Rovinj/Croatia.  The Ensemble was admired by the audience at the ‘Pergamenschikow Competition for Chamber Music’ in Berlin in 2011. During the same year, the Junges Rostocker Nonett performed for the live programme ‘NDR Kultur Start – Junge Künstler’ and was engaged to make radio recordings at Norddeutscher Rundfunk’s (NDR) Rolf Liebermann Studio. At the ‘Carte blanche für die hmt’ concert series, which is held as a collaboration between the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm and hmt Rostock, the Ensemble became a darling of the public and received the audience prize in 2015.

More about the history of nonets in Rostock:
The ‘Rostocker Nonett’  was founded all the way back in 1961 by members of the Norddeutsche Philharmonie. After several years of concerts, the ensemble had gained a reputation that made it possible for them to play guest performances in several European countries. Professor Günter Weidlich, who had been a member of the internationally successful ‘Rostocker Nonett’ for several years, brought this tradition back to life by founding hmt’s nonet. After two years under the artistic leadership of Weidlich, the reins of the ensemble were taken over by Heiner Schindler, long-term principal clarinettist at the Staatskapelle Berlin and Professor of Clarinet and Chamber Music at hmt Rostock, in 2013.
