Yaeli Greenblatt ist Forscherin, Hochschuldozentin und Kunstpraktikerin. Sie promovierte an der Hebrew University Jerusalem, wo sie ein Hoffmann-Fellowship innehatte. Ihre Forschungsinteressen umfassen die Materialität der modernen Bildsprache (Illustrationen, Graphic Novels), Performances des Nicht-Menschlichen und digitales Theater. Als Darstellerin und Regisseurin verwirklicht sie interdisziplinäre Theaterprojekte mit Schwerpunkt auf Musical Theater. Sie unterrichtet Literatur an der Rothberg International School der Hebrew University Jerusalem und Theaterwissenschaft sowie Schauspiel an der Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, wo sie die Fachrichtung Musical Theater leitet. Ihre Artikel und Rezensionen sind unter anderem in The Parish Review, European Joyce Studies, James Joyce Quarterly und James Joyce Supplement sowie in Sammelbänden zu Flann O’Brien erschienen.

On American Musical theater's attempt to define itself as a genre and reflect on its own conventions through musicals about musicals. The lecture will survey works from the Broadway canon and the Golden age of Movie musicals, focusing on shows that are devised as self referential, parodic or meta-theatrical. The investigation will trace various attempts at mythologizing the musical and will work as an introduction to what Musical theater is, some of its central conventions and tropes as well as common misunderstandings of the genre.

Yaeli Greenblatt is a researcher, lecturer and art practitioner. She received her PhD from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem where she was a Hoffmann fellow. Her research interests include the materiality of the modernist image through typography, illustrations and graphic-novels, performances of the non-human and digital theater. She is also an interdisciplinary performing artist and director specialising in Musical Theater. She teaches literature at the Rothberg International School at The Hebrew University, and theater studies and acting at The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance where she serves as head of the musical-theater track. Her articles and reviews have appeared in The Parish Review, European Joyce Studies, James Joyce Quarterly, and James Joyce Supplement as well as in collaborative volumes on Flann O'Brien.
