Bassoon Prof. Carlo Colombo

Born in Padua, Italy, Carlo Colombo has served as Principal Bassoon of the Lyon National Opera Orchestra since its inception in 1983. From 1978 to 1981 he was Principal Bassoon of the ensemble I Solisti Veneti, and has performed as guest principal bassoon with many European orchestras including the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the NDR Orchestra in Hamburg, the Orchestre de Paris, the Tonhalle Zürich and the Bayerische Staatsoper, Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

Faculty member of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Lyon since 2001, Mr.Colombo joined the faculty at the Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland in 2005, and he was a guest professor at Indiana University and at the Oberlin Conservatory. Since 2021 Guest Professor at Akademia Muzyczna im. Krzysztofa Pendereckiego w Krakowie.

Mr. Colombo received his “Diploma di Fagotto” from the Milano Conservatory, where he studied with Evandro Dall’Oca. He obtained his “Premier Prix deVirtuosité” from the Geneva Conservatory where he studied with Roger Birnstingl. He also studied with Brian Pollard in Amsterdam.

He has been member of the « Maurice Bourgue » Wind Ensemble. His interest in original instruments made him playing with the « Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique »conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner.

Invited in several Festival and Academies (l’Académie d’été des Arcs, APM Saluzzo, Académie de Nice, Académie Prague-Wien-Budapest, Festival de Prades, IDRS Conventions 2002/2009/2015, Beijing 2012/2015 Bassoon Festival) he has also been giving regularly Master-Classes (Germany, England, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland, Slovenia, Norway, Finland, Czech Republic, Canada, USA, Brazil, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Russia...)

He has been editing neglected pieces of the bassoon repertoire for Billaudot and Accolade Editions.

Bassoon Prof. David Petersen

David Petersen received his first piano lessons at the age of eight. He studied bassoon at the Spezialschule für Musik (Special School for Music) in Dresden, and then at the universities of music in Dresden, Berlin and Hanover under Bernhard Rose, Holger Straube and Klaus Thunemann. Petersen has been principal bassoonist of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig since 1992. The bassoonist is a founding member of the Gewandhaus Oktett, with whom he has performed in Germany, Spain, Austria, Japan, and Taiwan.
He has been a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since summer 2009.
As a sought-after chamber musician and soloist, he has played with various partners and orchestras such as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Camerata Salzburg, the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra and the German Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as H. Blomstedt, R. Norrington, and M. Schuldt-Jensen at festivals in Europe, Japan, Taiwan and the USA. In addition to a solo CD with bassoon concertos by A. Jolivet and W. A. Mozart, he also recorded with the LeitzingerBassoonQuartet (querstand). David Petersen has held bassoon classes at the universities in Frankfurt and Mainz since 2002 and has been Head of the Woodwind Department and Professor of Bassoon at hmt Rostock since 2021. 
He also teaches bassoon at the Music Gymnasium “Latina” in Halle (Saale) and holds regular courses in Germany, Japan, Taiwan, the USA, and Finland.
